Good morning, Disciples of Jesus Christ. Today we are going to reflect on 1 Corinthians, Chapter 2 in God’s Holy Word and discuss what it means to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and hearing God’s Voice. Our Prayer group attended a conference on “How To Hear God’s Voice” with Father Mark Nolte, mainly because as God’s Disciples, we are always learning, and we also always seek confirmation that we are always growing towards God in the Spiritual Life, and not falling away from God in our own mistakes about Discernment. This is why as we move from the purgative stage, to the illuminative stage, and finally the unitive stage with God, it takes a lot of work of mastering Humility for ourselves, ensuring we have purged all of our defects, and Discerning God’s voice. Because God allows us to be purified along the way through sufferings that we willfully accept for Him in order to be Transformed into His image, this Spiritual battle can be very difficult. However, God always only allows each of us just the right amount we can handle, as He is increasing our Faith, and Trust in Him to make us His saints. “And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.^[a] 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. ³ I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. ⁴ My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, ⁵ so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit

⁶ We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. ⁷ No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. ⁸ None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. ⁹ However, as it is written:

“What no eye has seen,
    what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”^[b]—
    the things God has prepared for those who love him—

¹⁰ these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. ¹² What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. ¹³ This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.^[c] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. ¹⁵ The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, ¹⁶ for,

“Who has known the mind of the Lord
    so as to instruct him?”^[d]

But we have the mind of Christ.”

So, as we are learning to yield to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are listening for His voice, we are discerning with our hearts, but also our minds, because we must ensure that it is the Holy Spirit and not just Satan trying to interject thoughts , or our own thoughts getting in the way. This is where we must spend a lot of time with Our Lord, in silent prayer. We are speaking to God with our hearts silently and just giving Him our worship, praise, love and our concerns. The more time we pour out our hearts in silence with Our Lord, the more He moves us through the three stages of Spiritual life. But, as working parents with Children, this can be difficult, but not impossible. All things are possible with God when we seek to be more holy for Him and strive to become a saint, we begin to be Transformed by Him through His Graces.

So, in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 2, Saint Paul is telling us that he is not speaking from his own knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, but from the Holy Spirit and His gifts that are infused into Saint Paul’s heart and mind. This can happen instantly like it did with Saint Paul when Our Lord appeared to Him on the road to Damascus, or this can take time, as we work on the stages of the interior life. But, when the Warning/Illumination of Conscience does come, be sure that those of us that have Surrendered to Our Lord to Serve Him will be set on fire and filled with the Holy Spirit similar to a Second Pentecost that will occur like the first Pentecost to the Apostles in the upper room. Our prayer group does not say this because we are prophets, but because that is what has been put on our hearts, and then confirmed by the Prophets in their prophetic messages, such as Father Michel Rodrigue. So, once we are Transformed, either by working hard to move ourselves with God’s Graces through the stages of Spiritual, or by a sudden encounter with God, we will have the mind of Jesus Christ.

Let us Pray – God Our Father in Heaven, we pray now for all of the Spiritual gifts to be Transformed into the Children of God we are supposed to be in order to honor, love and serve You as our Heavenly Father. We know that we are still imperfect, and we will continue to pray for Your Graces to continue to soften our hearts, and make us Christ- like minded. We have Surrendered all of our hearts, minds, bodies, works, joy, and suffering to assist Our Lord, Jesus Christ, for the Salvation of Souls. We pray for the intercession of Our Blessed Mother, and protection with her mantle, and we are consecrated through Her Immaculate Heart to the Sacred Heart of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. We can do nothing without the guidance of Your Holy Spirit, and we pray for the discernment to hear Your voice as we are preparing for the Warning/Illumination of Conscience to come. Thank You God Our Father for all of Your gifts, especially the gift of Salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

So, what Father Mark Nolte taught us, which was more confirmation for us that we are doing it right, is that to hear God’s Voice, we must spend time with Him through Our Relationship in prayer. We can have vocal prayer, but we must spend time with Him in mental prayer, or silent prayer. We need a very quiet environment so that we are not distracted, which is best in Adoration in front of the Monstrance. However, a prayer room or prayer closet can also work, and we can start by reading Scripture and asking for God to reveal to us what it means, or we can just worship and praise Him with our thoughts for a while. Then we can just let God know about our problems, or the difficulties we are having just trying to be a good parent, or spouse, and the issues we are having at work and throughout our everyday struggles. We just talk to Our Lord, even though He already knows our problems. Matthew 6:8.

^“Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

What we are doing is working on our Relationship with God, we are giving Him our hearts, and we are praying for guidance from Him on how to fix ourselves and defects and our lives. Because we have to remember that we are not in control! This should be evident now for everyone that calls themselves a Christian, as we witness all of the events surrounding us now. So, as we bring all of our love, pain, problems, issues, intentions, and our hearts to our Lord, then we need to listen for His response. Because our thoughts get in the way, it is easy to have a response back, but then we must discern is this my thought or is this God speaking back to me. The answer that Father Nolte gave was that when you get a Good response, that is spontaneous, it is from God. If it is a negative response, or scolding, or judgmental, it is not from God, but most likely Satan, or our own thoughts. God will guide us to what we need to hear in our hearts and minds, but it will not be in a negative, critical, or unloving way. Also, the key is SPONTANIETY. I have personally been praying, and suddenly get an image or vision or words, that I know automatically in my heart is from God. Also, we can pray for confirmation of what God is showing us or saying to us from Him through our silent prayer. He can point us to His Holy Scriptures, or to a sign we read on the way to work, or through another person that may say something to us. Then we not only know that God was speaking to us through confirmation, but also our Faith is increased, because we begin to understand through the Graces of the Holy Spirit that we have a Relationship with God. The more we work on improving our Relationship, the more Graces we receive to become Christ-like minded, the more gifts from the Holy Spirit we receive to begin Serving Our Lord.
